As part of my project of archiving original content from my father's (and his uncle's) reel to reel tapes, I basically have to go through every single tape (many un- or mis-labeled) and figure out what's on there - and what's worth keeping. On one tape - a mix tape - was a song which had a a 40s like swing to it, and somewhat off-key, almost talked lyrics like "some guys like to girls with girls and some guys' girls are guys". This warranted investigation.
As it happened, there was a track listing for this tape - and this was Up For Grabs by Patrick Sky. Further research on him revealed that he had recorded an album called Songs That Made America Famous, full of politically incorrect songs that were allegedly so offensive that it took him several years to get it released.
And so, from there, I had to buy the two CDs of his that were in print, as well as the three no-CD-release vinyl efforts - Reality is Bad Enough, Photographs, and A Harvest of Gentle Clang. Most on these later.
