This plans to be a fully detailed listing of all the variations of the Doctor Who opening and closing theme variations - graphics and music.
1963 - The original opening them, written by Ron Grainer and realized by Delia Derbyshire and friends. Some things to notice about this one:
1963 - even before this "original" theme, there was a version of the theme used in the pilot episode - this included some subtle differences.
1968 - Patrick Troughton finally got his own opening credits sequence - this resulted in a change to the theme music as well. The "bass line" is now echoed.
1970 - Jon Pertwee's first season resulted in a shortening of the introduction to the theme - the last two repetitions of the 'riff' are missing (with the slight variation). Also, this version of the theme sometimes faded in.
Delaware theme?
Tom Baker's closing theme sometimes was missing the 'middle eight' section. (why?)
