In 2006, Michael Kaplan made the decision to leave Pain Hertz to pursue his solo project. It was agreed that Pain Hertz would go on as a three-piece. In order to remove any doubt of the viability of Pain Hertz, it was decided to work on new material immediately. This started in the fall of 2006, with 2 songs fully mature by the spring of 2007. Nick Wolven recorded his drum tracks at that point, before leaving to spend a summer at Clarion Workshop. By the time he returned to New York City, this two-song release was ready. This was the first release from Pain Hertz to feature Alex Lozupone playing seven-string guitar.
